Second Annual Steampunk Ghostbusters charity ball.

Even though it is now over a month since the second annual Steampunk Ghostbusters Charity Ball for 2015, I'm still watching the amount of money raised rise. We had thought we'd put in a magnificent total with the first estimate of just over $7000, but thanks to the tireless efforts of our talented photographer we have to pushed over $8000 raised for the Cancer Council Queensland. Frankly, it's astounding, phenomenal and a tribute to everyone who attended, and everyone who worked hard to make it a reality.

Success! The Steampunk Ghostbusters Charity Ball

Quite tardily, my apologies, I can report the Steampunk Ghostbusters Charity Ball held last month was an outstanding success. The event raised just under $5,000 for the Cancer Council Queensland, yet apart from the charity effort – the outfit effort was positively amazing. There were steampunked green fairies, hats that were ships complete with rigging, along with ghostbusters modern and Victorianesque. The professional photographer took outstanding pictures of the event, as did many of the attendees, you can see them on the Steampunk Charity Ball page.

With apologies to Dr Seuss.

[Ged Maybury, 2014-06-26 12:05:44] Absolutely world-class work, sir! Now we need the graphics to go with it.

Steam at Old Petrie Town

This week I received an invitation from the Queensland Steam and Vintage Machinery Society to bring S.T.E.A.M along to see their works at Old Petrie Town's regular markets. Unfortunately it clashed with some already organised SEQ steampunk events, but I made sure to go to the QSVMS demonstrations and WOW were they spectacular. Along with so many working steam engines, they had fully functional vehicles (two steam rollers with real steam, along with others); miniature steam engines running on tables and the markets also hosts a foundry, with sand casting and polishing. It was positively breathtaking seeing these massive machines in action, being able to smell the engines and feel the vibrations; you could even donate some coins to sound the steam whistles (glee!). Bill, who invited me, gave me a fascinating walk through of his two steam rollers - from how he acquired them to what work needed to be done to make them safely functional again, right up to the reasoning behind the name Ida for one of them.

Steampunk Charity Ball

Well I’m excited. The Steampunk Ghostbusters are hosting a charity ball to raise money for the Queensland Cancer Council. There’ll be a short performance by amateur thespians, an auction, nibblies and everyone MUST attend in a steampunk/ victorian outfit. New bonus, each paying attendee will receive a Steampunk Ghostbusters pin, which is pretty darn snazzy. The event is on the 19th of July, held in the Cloudland’s Heritage Room in Fortitude Valley, Queensland. If you can attend, you really should.

Types of Steampunk

With invited guest Baron von Borg, we explore different flavours of steampunk. Video cuts out before the discussion devolves into an additional 30 minutes of pure, steampunk rambling (but there's now a link at the end of the video if you're keen). You do get a nicer look at the lab at least.
